Opossum (Didelphis virginiana). Marsupial, nocturnal mostly, but may be seen in the spring grubbing during the day. Opossums eat mostly meats, but will eat plants, fruits, garbage, bird seed, eggs, moles and pet food. They are solitary animals and will spend many days in a den during cold spells. They have a home range of 10-50 acres and are found in many attics garages and barns. They breed in February – June with an average litter size of 6-16. Customers often call complaining of something walking in the attic or raiding their pet food and bird feeders.
