Opossum
(Didelphis virginiana). Marsupial, nocturnal mostly, but may be seen in
the spring grubbing during the day. Opossums eat mostly meats, but will
eat plants, fruits, garbage, bird seed, eggs, moles and pet food. They
are solitary animals and will spend many days in a den during cold
spells. They have a home range of 10-50 acres and are found in many
attics garages and barns. They breed in February – June with an average
litter size of 6-16. Customers often call complaining of something
walking in the attic or raiding their pet food and bird feeders.
